Warri Wolves plans big carnival for Eromoigbe, Temile, others
- Beats Heartland 3-2
By Gowon Akpodonor
WARRI Wolves has said that its decision to engage the services of Russia-based Richard Eromoigbe, Omonigho Temile, goalkeeper Ambrose Vanzekin and two Malian internationals was to add colour and glamour to the local league.
The club defeated Heartland 3-2 in a rescheduled match yesterday to hit top of the Globacom Premier League with 13 points. Wolves, which is representing Nigeria in the CAF Cup next year, also defeated league champion, Bayelsa United, 2-0 last weekend.
Speaking with The Guardian shortly after the match yesterday, Chairman of Delta Sports Commission, Amaju Pinnick, said that "a special day" has been set aside for the unveiling ceremony of Eromoigbe, Temile, Vanzekin and the Milans, as the management of Wolves has motivated the club for the challenges ahead.
"We have to repackage the team because of the challenges ahead of us. Temile is already playing and he was man of the match against Ranchers Bees and we just completed the transfer formalities in the case of Eromoigbe," Pinnick told The Guardian.
"He will join us on Monday. The two Malians are playing well and Vanzekin is one of the best keepers in the country today. So you can see that Warri Wolves is really set."
Pinnick hinted that the players' salaries and other entitlements had been paid up till December, adding: "As we speak, all outstanding dues have been paid and we have also settled the players and all officials up till December. As a way of motivating the players, I promised them N1 million cash if they defeat Heartland. I have just redeemed the pledge. I did the same in the match against Bayelsa and I am happy it paid off."
With the victory yesterday, Wolves is now leading the Globacom Premier League table with 13 points followed by Enyimba of Aba (13), Kwara United (12) and Lobi Stars (12). Wolves will be guest to Rangers this weekend in Enugu.
