Eaglets get cash reward, set for Kiwis

NIGERIA'S U-17 squad will tomorrow be presented with cash prize of $6,250 by Cadbury Nigeria Plc, maker of Tom Tom, for their shots at goal during the first round of the ongoing cadet World Cup.

The presentation will take place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel by noon. A breakdown from the sponsors show that the Eaglets attempted a total of 25 shots at goal in the first round, with 15 against Germany, six against Honduras and four against Argentina in their last game of the first round.

Tom Tom, the official candy of the Nigerian national teams, is offering to the defending champions the sum of $250 for every shot at goal at this tournament.

The Eaglets drew 3-3 with Germany in a hard game and beat Honduras and Argentina 1-0 and 2-1 respectively. The team returned to Abuja on Sunday and trained at the Aguiyi Ironsi Barracks yesterday evening. The team will maintain rapport with the Aguiyi Ironsi Barracks before taking its turn at the National Stadium mainbowl tomorrow.

Nigeria takes on New Zealand in the very last match of the Round of 16, starting from 7p.m, Thursday, at the National Stadium, Abuja. The Nigeria Football Federation has appealed to Nigerians resident in the Federal Capital Territory and environs to storm the stadium on Thursday evening to support the Eaglets.

If the Eaglets overcome New Zealand, they will be playing the winner of the match between Mexico and Korea Republic in the quarter-finals, which will take place at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar on Monday, November 8.
