Eagles to camp in Namibia for Nations Cup
- Eromoigbe joins Warri Wolves
NAMIBIA has been chosen as new campsite for the Super Eagles preparatory to next year's Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Media Officer, Ademola Olajire, told a local website, Kickoff.com yesterday that original plans to camp in South Africa were shelved on the advice of the Nigeria High Commissioner to Angola, His Excellency Layiwola Laseinde.
"The high commissioner informed the NFF top brass during the draws in Luanda that the weather in Namibia would be very similar to that in Angola, while South Africa would be very cold at that time," Olajire said. "So his advice was for us to camp in Namibia rather than in South Africa, and the NFF has decided to take his advice."
According to Olajire, the high commissioner is very interested in the wellbeing of the team and has promised to mobilise the over 5,000 Nigerians in Angola to support the team during the tournament.
Meanwhile, Richard Eromoigbe has joined Nigeria Premier League club, Warri Wolves, after being released by Russia's FC Khimki in September. Wolves' Media Officer, Azuka Chiemeka, confirmed the move, but said the player would only start playing from next weekend. Chiemeka said: "Eromoigbe has agreed to join us for an undisclosed fee and he will start playing from next week."
The former junior international was a member of Nigeria's squad to the 2008 Africa Nations Cup. In July 2008, he went on trial at Derby County, but manager Paul Jewell passed on offering him a contract.
Eromoigbe played some of his best football with Romanian side, Levski Sofia, which he helped win the Bulgarian title in 2005 and then went on to make history as the first Bulgarian side to reach the UEFA Champions League group stages.
