Political Office Holders Consume N10tr In Eight Years

DESPITE the downturn in the global economy, Nigerian political officeholders are exerting enormous strain on the nation's scarce resources

Indeed, by the next round of elections in 2011, the officeholders in the executive, legislative and judicial arms of government could have received a princely N10 trillion in salaries and allowances from 2000 to 2011.

This is even as the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has waded in to reduce the huge allowances earned by these officials.

While the officeholders rake-up N5 trillion between 2000 and 2007, they would have got N5.2 trillion from 2007 to 2011.
