  Fuel smugglers escape arrest, abandon vessel on high sea -041109
A TANKER vessel suspected to have been used for fuel smuggling by repentant Niger Delta militants have been found abandoned along the shipping route off the coast of Ikot Abasi in Akwa Ibom state. The vessel was discovered by officials of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and safety Agency (NIMASA) recently.

WORRIED by the upsurge of insecurity along the international shipping routes in Africa, especially around Somalia and Nigeria, the office of the National Security Adviser has initiated moves to train security officials of the countryŐs maritime regulatory agencies on how to combat acts of terrorism and other offences along the Nigerian coast.
