No Vacancy In Aso Rock?

Sir: The news credited to the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof Rufai Alkali that there might be no vacancy in Aso Rock come 2011 is not strange to us. From our not too distant national history, no occupant of Aso Rock has willingly vacated the place at the expiration of his term. He either annulled an election (Babangida), got booted out by an infamous palace coup (Shonekan), answered the call of nature (Abacha), got compelled by global clamour for democratisation (Abubakar) or sought an illusory third term (Obasanjo).

We know our votes do not count and can conclude that come 2011 nothing will change as rightly foretold by Prof Alkali. As for President Yar' Adua, he has done his best given the state of his health which is well known to all Nigerians. If I were his son or loved one, I will pray to God to preserve his life and come May 2011 we will go back to Katsina so that we can all enjoy the fruits of his labour. He should forget about second term and take a deep long rest so that he could live long

Duro Fadare,
Lagos.
