Don lists corruption, incompetence as hindrances to development

VICE Chancellor of Federal University, Oye -Ekiti in Ekiti State, Prof. Chinedu Nebo has identified the twin evil of corruption and incompetence as serious cankerworms setting the country backwards.

This is as the General Overseer of Amazing Love Assembly, Enugu, Bishop Amaechi Nwachukwu called on Nigerians to embrace the study of theology so as to guide in the administration of the country.

Delivering the 20th anniversary lecture of the Agape Bible College, Enugu, Nebo said that the country has sold competence on the altar of federal character, noting that there must be a change in certain policies to drive the nation to the next level.

Speaking on the theme: “Role of theological education in the development of the nation and whole man,” he stated that mismanagement of economic resources among others had continued because of lack of ethical values, adding that there was need to quickly address the trend.

He said, “Nigeria’s problem is not corruption alone but the twin evil of corruption and incompetence. We don’t see anything wrong in incompetence.

“We have sold competence on the altar of federal character. It takes a sound mind to begin to address this anomaly in management of abundant resources and these arose from lack of ethical values.”

Nebo stated that lack of ethical values in the administration of the nation has dealt a serious blow on the progress of the country, insisting that religious leaders must use their platform to intervene to put things aright.

“Those, who transform society are those led by God’s words. Conscientisation of our society must be done on religious platform and requires the support of religious leaders,” he said.

He said that theological education should transform the whole man to enable him impact positively on the development of the country and urged leaders to accord pirority to theology.

Bishop Nwachukwu, who was full of praises to God for the achievements recorded by the school, said her products have continued to work for the expansion of the gospel.

He said the school would embrace ideas that would not only transform man but also contribute in the development of the country.
