
TOP-notch content provider, Chief Wale Adenuga (MFR), has been named by readers of this column as winner of the 2012 Moviedom Man of the Year award. The filmmaker Kunle Afolayan got readers nod in 2011.
Adenuga got the highest vote to emerge winner in a long list of motion picture practitioners that included Afeez Oyetoro, Nse Ikpe Etim, Joseph Benjamin and the managing director of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), Mr. Afolabi Adesanya.
Adenuga was named winner because of his passion, resilience and commitment to the growth and development of the motion picture industry, particularly television. Readers noted that he has created more notable programmes than any other content provider. He has won a lot of awards for his immeasurable contributions to the growth and development of the industry.
Only recently, he received a Life Time Achievement Award at the 2012 edition of Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards (NBMA) in recognition of his contributions to the growth of the Nigerian Electronic Media.
Adenuga, who is widely treasured by Nigerians at home and abroad for providing quality educational and entertaining content for over three decades, is the creator and producer of Super story, This Life, Papa Ajasco & Company, Nnena & Friends TV Show. Last October, Adenuga moved several steps higher when his cable station, WapTV, commenced broadcast on Startimes Channel 222 across the country.
The comedian Hafiz Oyetoro and Nollywood diva, Nse Ikpe Etim, were named joint second place winners while the managing director of NFC came third.
Oyetoro and Nse were picked for their immense talent as well as their incredible run on the screen during the year. They were reputed to have featured in more hit productions, especially those premiered and screened in cinemas across the country. They were also said to have won more awards during the year and received countless nominations, including the 2012 edition of the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) and the Afro Hollywood Awards in the UK.
The NFC boss was named third place winner for running an activity-based film development agency. Readers reasoned that the Nigerian motion picture industry, and indeed, has recorded tremendous progress and development under the leadership of Adesanya, whose tenure as chief executive ends this year.
