THE President of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Osaho Onabulele, has warned that the concession of hospitals would prevent the people of Imo State from accessing health facilities.
The NMA chief gave the caution against the backdrop of Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State’s decision to place the state-owned hospitals and other institutions on concession.
Onabulele spoke yesterday in Owerri when he led a delegation of executive members of the association on a courtesy visit to the governor.
He pointed out that the association was worried by the decision of the state government in sacking some doctors when it required their services.
While warning that leaving the services of the health institutions in the hands of private hands to run would deny those that have health challenges to seek medical assistance, he disclosed that the association embarked on periodic free medical services to Nigerians in order to help improve health care.
