IN continuation of his golden birthday celebration, Fred Amata was with over 40 old people at their exclusive home at Yaba, Lagos. The activity, which took place last Sunday afternoon, saw the Nollywood star presenting food stuff and clothes to each of the inmates.
He spent some time with each of the aged people in their respective rooms. During the tour, which was directed by a senior officer in the orphanage (names with held) after each of them had received a piece of Davida textile, they hugged and blessed him with prayers before rendering the traditional happy birthday song.
For Fred, “This is very emotional. I decided to make this visit with my friends and colleagues just to show some love to the aged. They deserve everything you can do for them now. Seeing people of this age and sharing this moment with them is more than gold to me. I feel elated being with these aged people. When you see these people you will become more challenged on the need to give back to the society that has done so much for you.
“ I will come here again. I have always been here and I will always make out time to visit them. I also seize this opportunity to thank the state government because these aged people can’t get it better. Very clean environment, well ventilated, you can see that there is a deliberate effort to make these our fathers and mothers enjoy their old age.”
The Old People’s Home is a place where majority of the inmates have nobody to fall back to, while a negligible few were brought in by their family members who pay a token o N15,000 per annum. They are taken care of by the state government. And ultimately their burial expenses are borne by the state.
