ADEBAYO Oke-lawal is the fashion editor of Wow Magazine and creative director of Orange Culture.
The Lagos-based designer love for designing started at childhood recently unveiled his new works, which explored the adire, aso-oke and cow skin leather motif.
A foretaste of his avant-garde experimentation was the dialogue on fabric called Woven Threads, which he presented at the last Lagos Fashion and Design week.
The exhibition looked into the future of Nigerian fashion, exploring the art of textile craftsmanship, which remains an integral part of the country’s heritage and cultural identity.
Hosted by the British Council and the British Fashion Council, the show bridged the gap between the art of textile craftsmanship and the emerging talents in the Nigerian fashion industry apart from blossoming the two countries’ fashion industry.
On what fashion means to him, Oke-lawal says, “it is my voice. It’s the way I speak my mind and a way to obviate my opinions. I just follow what I love, trend or not.”
According to him, "everything I’ve done is a ‘major’ achievement, because I know where I started from, so, everything from the first collection to the shows and to the interviews I consider them all as achievements.”
He adds, “the orange culture man is quirky, edgy and very much fearless; he has no time for closed-minded individuals.”
