CHAIRMAN of Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has pledged the loyalty of the state governors to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDD). He, however, warned against taking for granted members of the party.
He made the commitment at the weekend during a visit of National Chairman of the ruling party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, to Rivers State.
Meanwhile, Tukur has commended Amaechi for his efforts at transforming the state through several people-oriented projects.
Tukur spoke on Saturday in an interview with reporters after inspecting projects embarked upon by the Ameachi administration.
Projects inspected were Kesley Harrison Hospital, ultra- modern state-of-the-art Maxillo-Facial Dental Hospital, Port Harcourt-Owerri Road (a 42-kilometre federal road constructed by Amaechi), new model primary/secondary schools and one of the new health centres.
Others were Songhai Farm in Tai, Afam Power project, Obiri-Ikwerre Interchange on the East–West Road and the 38,000-seater stadium constructed in the Greater Port Harcourt City.
Tukur said Amaech’s effort has enlisted Port Harcourt in the league of “developed cities of the world.”
Tukur also explained that basic developmental projects in the area of road construction, infrastructure, education, health and economic transformation “has become programmes people can see in the heart of the country, as efforts have been directed and focused on fantastic development and achievements by the Amaechi administration.”
Speaking earlier at a dinner party held in his honour at the Government House Friday night, Tukur declared that PDP would not lose power if “transformational leaders like Governor Amaechi” remain in the party.
“PDP will never loss to any party, if people like Amaechi stand boldly behind us. We will win and continue to win in any election… Support your governor, Amaechi; support our party’ “ Tukur urged.
The party leader also urged party faithfuls to embrace peace and reconcile differences amicably.
Amaechi assured Tukur that PDP governors would support and remain loyal to the party.
“We assure you that governors will support and remain loyal to the party. We need each other at such a challenging moment. Lead us to victory, and it is important that we don’t take each other for granted so that we will continue to lead the party to victory”, Amaechi said.
