AFTER a brief Christmas break,, Governor Peter Obi of Anambra state last Tuesday resumed his visits to schools in the State, just as he gave cheques to some of them for rehabilitation purposes.
Among the six schools visited were Marist Brothers Secondary School, Nteje; Model Comprehensive Secondary School, Nkwelle Ezunaka; New Era Secondary School, Onitsha; Army Day Secondary School, Onitsha; Community Secondary School, Awada; and Union Secondary School.
During the visits, the governor inspected their facilities, interacted with staff and addressed students on the need to take their studies seriously. He advised that education remains the biggest asset those growing up should strive to acquire to be better positioned for success in a highly competitive society.
He assured the students that his administration would not relent in upgrading their facilities, adding that his administration has rehabilitated most schools in the State, including science blocks.
Besides, he stated that th state government was equipping all schiools with laboratory materials, computers with internet facilities, generating sets, water boreholes, conveniences, among others.
The governor noted that he is particularly happy with the return of schools to their original owners ( the missionaries), adding that collaboration with the Church had tremendously improved the fortunes of education in the State.
He declared that Anambra was one of the best in education in terms of performance and other indices.
In a remark, the principal of Marist Comprehensive College, Nteje, Reverend Brother Mike Iwu explained that it was on record that his school is one of those which has benefited immensely from the Obi administration.
“We thank you profoundly for your interest in schools. This really shows that you understand that the children of today are leaders of tomorrow”, he said.
Also speaking, the Principal of New Era Secondary School, Onitsha, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Agbabamila, commended the governor for his vision, especially the commitment, support and encouragement for education in the state.
