THE Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has donated relief materials to victims of the recent flood disaster that affected many local councils in Jigawa State, where farmlands, food crops, other properties and about 36 lives were lost.
Representative of the NPA, Alhaji Suwaid Isah, who made the presentation of the materials to the State Emergency Management Agency in Dutse over the weekend, said as part of the agency’s policy thrust, it has decided to donate relief materials to flood victims nationwide to cushion the effect of the disaster.
He said the body was presenting 7,000 treated mosquito nets, 1,300 blankets, 600 bags of rice and 1,400 mattresses to the victims in the state, adding that Jigawa was the seventh state the NPA was visiting.
Responding, the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu Waziri, said the state was still having camp in Ringim for internally displaced persons, adding that the most affected councils were Ringim, Taura, Jahun and Miga, where victims lost almost everything to the flood.
