OFFICIALS of the Federal Operations Unit, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Zone B Headquarters, Kaduna, said that about N300 million worth of illegal goods and contrabands were confiscated in 2012, just as 60 cartons of frozen turkey illegally imported into the country were destroyed Thursday.

The decomposing contraband turkey oil worth over N250,000 was set ablaze before journalists at the Kaduna approved dump site along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road by Customs officials.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the destruction, the NCS Public Relations Officer (PRO) Zone B, Mallam Ado Idris, said that cartons of the frozen meat were impounded within the Kwara State axis of the zone.

According to him, “turkey is one of the items the Federal Government banned its importation, so our men were able to impound them in Ilorin area of the Customs unit.

“There is nothing that could be done to the seized packaged turkeys than to destroy them by setting fire on them, and that is what we did to serve as deterrent to other people who may have the urge to go into such illegal business.”
