Fourteen-year-old Tolu Ajayi, Wednesday became the winner of the maiden Junior Golf Championship at Ikeja Golf Club, Lagos State.

Ajayi, who returned 107 gross score to win the 18-hole tournament, which was meant to encourage kid’s interest in the game said: “I have been playing golf since I was in Primary Five, but I still don’t have time to practise as I would love to because of my education. But I am happy to win this event. I believe it will make me play the game more.”

About 60 kids took part in the one-day event that was organised by the ladies section of Ikeja Golf Club.

Lady Captain of the club, Mrs Ruth Oluwatosin said they were amazed at the turnout and the interest shown by the kid golfers to be part of the event.

“It goes to show that, with a little more motivation, the kid golfers would improve their game. Some of them were playing for the first time. This means their scores and interest would improve with more events like this,” she stated.

Eleven-year-old Georgia Oboh, who won the junior tournament sponsored at the same venue also took part in the event ending her campaign with 88 gross score.
