DESPITE the insecurity and other challenges that Nigeria experienced in 2012, the former, Vice-President Atiku Abubakar yesterday took a perspective look into the New Year and expressed confidence that 2013 held a greater prospect for Nigerians and the country.
He, therefore, urged Nigerians to keep hope alive in the New Year despite the trials endured in recent times with the belief that good tidings would come to the nation and its people in 2013.
In a New Year message, issued yesterday by his Media Office in Abuja, Atiku said that the year 2013 offered all Nigerians fortunate to see it a golden opportunity for a new beginning. He called on Nigerians to continue to pray for the progress and prosperity of the country, while urging those in the position of leadership to change for the better, so as to inspire the followers.
He added: “We, as leaders and the led can change our ways as a people and work for the betterment and development of all the ordinary citizens of Nigeria.”
He, however, said that Nigerians and Nigeria could not overcome the present challenges if “we lose faith in our country and deride the good values that sustain its unity and progress.”
He urged political leaders in decision-making positions to work hard to restore hope and dignity of the human person, especially ordinary Nigerians, brought upon them by conflicting interest of the elite.
He prayed to God to bless Nigeria and its people in the New Year and to give its leaders the wisdom to guide the country out of the present difficulties
