Uranta retires from Niger Insurance

DR. Justus Clinton Uranta has bowed out as the managing director of Niger Insurance Plc after 35 years of meritorious service in the insurance industry.

In view of the fact that the insurance company has a good succession plan, investigation revealed that Mr. Kolapo Adedeji, the deputy-managing director, would succeed Uranta.

At a send forth party organised for him in Lagos recently, Uranta, who has been MD/CEO of Niger Insurance since 2005, informed that he voluntarily resigned from the organisation after having spent 35 years in the insurance industry.  He noted that this scenario would have made him to retire had it been he was working in the public service.

However, due to the fact that the company’s board of directors is convinced that Uranta still has a lot to contribute to the insurance firm, the board has decided to retain him as a director.

Uranta recalled that when he joined Niger Insurance in 1998, the company was having 20 branches, adding that the number of marketing outlets is now 45 strategically spread across the country.

In a similar vein, he said the premium income generated by the underwriting firm in 1998 was about N199 million, pointing out that the company is now generating about N10 billion premium income.

He also expressed delight that Niger Insurance is one of the four leading insurance company in Nigeria at present.

Some of his recent notable achievements at Niger Insurance include putting structures in place to ensure prompt payment of claims to policyholders as a dedicated account was opened solely for claims and commission payment.

Under his management, the company organised constant training and retaining for its employees both locally and internationally so that they can keep rendering excellent services to their cherished customers.

Besides, the company has successfully deployed electronic platforms and facilities (Tonquest Software and other IT infrastructure) to its regional offices and branches nationwide for quick and reliable service delivery.

Uranta began his working career in 1977, as an assistant officer in the Federal Ministry of Trade. He joined Unity Life and Fire Insurance Company as an officer from 1978 to 1980 from where he proceeded to BCM Insurance Brokers Limited, where he was a Marketing Manager between 1980 and 1981. From 1988 to 1990, he was the general manager, VERITAS Insurance Company Limited.

He was the AGM (Oil and Gas) NICON Insurance Corporation 1990 to 1998, from where he joined Niger Insurance as an executive director (Technical) from 1998 to 2005.
