NO doubt, modern living is stressful and highly demanding. With this scenario, it’s easy for people to come apart at the slightest jolt from any direction. It takes some ‘ingenuity’ to be able to adapt, cope and survive in the midst of all these ‘turbulence’.
“More than ever, people have to learn to do their things in such a way that these don’t get the better of them,” says Larape Johnson of Inner Connect, a stress management outfit. “The times we are in call for prudence and by this, I don’t mean just the financial aspect alone. People have to learn to manage their emotions, life, time as well as finances.”
The proper handling of these various aspects of an individual’s life ensures a relatively peaceful life devoid of needless worries, anxieties and fears, which are the root cause of stress and a direct link to avoidable diseases and illnesses. A common thread runs through all of them, though, they are also somehow interwoven. It might rightly be said that if the common ground is found and the core issue is effectively handled, more success will be recorded in other areas.
But how is this to be achieved? “To start with, people need to be very realistic and down-to-earth in every facet of their lives. This means that the goals and expectations from life should be moderate and achievable. One thing I have learned in life is that majority of people find it hard to be real and this is what leads to such harmful, negative emotions as worries, fears, depression and anxieties. But, if people are able to manage these, they are also more likely to attain harmony and inner peace,” says Johnson.
Of course, it is an individual thing that requires personal and individual treatment, too. For what works for one person may not work for the other. It, therefore, takes correct assessment of one’s abilities including the weaknesses and strengths to be able to arrive at a meaningful result.
Harmony is particularly important for the individual desirous of achieving set goals, happiness and a healthy interaction with others. It is beneficial in every way, as it impacts on the people as well as the environment. Everyone stands to gain a lot when harmony prevails whether at home, in the workplace or the society at large.
Since it is only what a person has that s/he can give, it is safe to aver that it is only someone who has inner peace and by extension harmony within that can bring this to bear wherever s/he is or operates.
“There is the urgent need to pause from time to time to and take a stock of one’s life, what has been achieved so far and what still needs to be done. In one word, to get better focused, refreshed and to re-strategise, so to say.”
To some, it might seem an illusion attaining to an appreciable level of inner peace and harmony, but like every other thing in life, it only needs determination and good planning to make it possible. But it is well-worth the trouble at the end of the day, as inner peace is required for practically every facet of life, to be able to succeed and enjoy a relatively peaceful life with all it entails.
