PLATEAU State government has threatened to petition the United Nations (UN) over alleged devastating mining activities of international corporations in the state in the past.

A statement issued on Monday after a three-day retreat for government officials in the state said the action became imperative because the government feels Plateau had been devastated by mining activities of the corporations.

The statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Shedrach Best, and the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Yiljap Abraham, states that Plateau also seeks the intervention of the Federal Government on the matter.

It notes the return of peace to the state and the resolve of the residents to sustain it, saying the rising profile of Plateau is a testimony of the prevailing peaceful atmosphere.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Assembly, representing Mangu South Constituency, John Clark Dabwan, has assured his constituents that he would consolidate on his mandate by providing them with more dividends of democracy.

Dabwan gave the assurance when he presented roofing sheets and cash to some communities in his constituency, and a Peugeot 504 to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Mangu Local Council. He said the gesture was his way of appreciating the people for the support and loyalty he received from the administration of Governor Jonah Jang.
