Several attempts had been made in the past to have the document overhauled to no avail, the last of such being the exercise chaired by former Deputy Senate President Ibrahim Mantu which the Senate rejected in 2006 owing to the tenure elongation clause seeking extension of then President Olusegun Obasanjo's tenure in office.
