IT is most unfortunate that in a recent report by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) Nigeria is classified, among other countries, with war-ravaged Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia as leading origins of asylum seekers in the world. It is further stated that the number of such Nigerians is on the increase.

WHEN world football body, FIFA, introduced the MRI test shortly before the start of the ongoing U-17 championship in Nigeria, the country, among all other participating countries, appeared worse hit by the news. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) among other country's football bodies appeared the most worked up about the somewhat 'bad news'.

IT is commendable that The Guardian Newspaper was one of the few Nigerian newspapers to publish articles related to the proposed trip of Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir to Nigeria. The awareness of Bashir's visit received more attention from human rights organisations notably Amnesty International which called for his arrest in accordance with the ICC warrant.
