Firms target improved gross earnings

FOR the first quarter ending January 31, 2010, Abbey Building Society Plc has concluded plans to realise gross earnings of N443.9 million.

Also within the period according to the company, profit after tax is expected to hit not less than N126.4 million.

In its forecasts for the fourth quarter ending December 31, 2009, UAC of Nigeria Plc forecasts a turnover of N57.3 billion and profit after tax of N6.5 billion.

According to reports made available to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Tantalizers Plc plans to realise a gross sales of N1.5 billion and profit after tax of N59.6 million for the fourth quarter ending December 31, 2009.

Meanwhile, unaudited result of Sterling Bank Plc for the fourth quarter ended September 30, 2009 showed gross earnings of N37.8 billion, higher than N6.3 billion recorded in the comparable period of 2008. Its loss after tax and exceptional items stood at N4.5 billion, compared with profit after tax and exceptional items of N6.5 billion in 2008.

Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc's unaudited result for the third quarter ended September 30, 2009 showed gross income of N2.1 billion, as against N1.7 billion in the comparable period in 2008. Its profit after tax stood at N1.2 billion, compared with loss before tax of N8.9 billion in 2008.

Unaudited result of Benue Cement Company Plc for the third quarter ended September 30, 2009 showed a turnover of N27.2 billion, as against N9.8 billion recorded in the comparable period in 2008. The company's profit before tax stood at N12.9 billion, compared with profit after tax of N4.1 billion in 2008.

Aso Savings Loans Plc's unaudited result for the half year ended September 30, 2009 showed gross income of N2.3 billion as against N2.4 billion recorded in the comparable period of 2008 while profit after tax stood at N211.7 million compared with N674.6 million in 2008.

Unaudited result of Northern Nigeria Flourmills Plc for the half-year ended September 30, 2009 showed a turnover of N5.3 billion, as against N4.6 billion in the comparable period of 2008 while its profit after tax stood at N328.7 million, compared with N75.2 million in 2008.

Berger Paints Plc's unaudited result for the half-year ended June 30, 2009 showed a turnover of N1.1 billion, as against N1.2 billion recorded in the comparable period in 2008. Its profit after tax stood at N58.1 million, compared with N82.6 million in 2008.

Unaudited result of Academy Press for the first quarter ended June 30, 2009 showed a turnover of N575.8 million, over N412.9 million recorded in the comparable period of 2008. The company's profit after tax stood at N38.8 million compared with N9.3 million in 2008.
