Why Kano Would Not Continue Foreign Scholarship, Free Education, Garba Says
THE Kano State government has cited the country’s dwindling economic fortunes and requisite change in government policies as reasons why it can no longer sustain the foreign scholarship scheme.
Government had earlier suspended the free education policy for indigenes schooling in state-own secondary and tertiary institutions.
In an interview with The Guardian in Kano, Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, Muhammad Garba, said as laudable as the schemes were, the Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led administration cannot continue with the policies inherited from Rabiu Kwankwaso administration due to the present reality of the state’s economy.
Garba, who is the immediate past president of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), however, assured that the decision would not affect the over 100 students currently benefiting from the scholarship scheme.
