A BLOCK moulder, Tajudeen Shoneye, who allegedly raped an eight-year-old girl, on Tuesday, has denied committing the act before a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja.

Shoneye, aged 60, who resides at No. 21, Badejoko Street, Ketu, pleaded not guilty to the alleged rape of the girl, names withheld, on June 15, 2013.

In his testimony, the defendant said he was a block moulder and a treasurer at the central mosque within the Ketu community. He is also called ‘Seriki’, the one who settles disputes in the community. He further told the court that he had no relationship with the girl.

He, however, prayed the court to have mercy on him, noting that there was no truth in the allegation levelled against him.

However, the prosecution counsel, Mr. A. George, said the accused raped the girl after returning from a naming ceremony he took the girl to, adding that the defendant had approached the residents’ association to plead on his behalf for the girl’s parents to withdraw the case from court, but the plea failed because the state is prosecuting the case.

Justice Atinuke Ipaye, therefore, adjourned the case till March 9 and March 10, 2016.
