THE Psalmist declare in one of his many songs that, “… no one on earth—from east or west, or even from the wilderness—can raise another person up. It is God alone who judges; he decides who will rise and who will fall”- Psm. 75:6 & 7.
What this simply means is that true and lasting promotion comes from God. He is the one that decides who is due for promotion. God is absolutely sovereign over everything. He chooses who is to be promoted, when, how and who/what will be used to enforce it. God uses people and events to fulfill His counsel in people’s lives. He governs the world according to His purposes.

Don’t be dismayed when you see ungodly people doing the will of God in the lives of His people. At such times, God is in control. Let this knowledge give you confidence and peace no matter what happens. We should be confident of God’s ultimate control over the events in our lives and must acknowledge His absolute control over all life’s affairs.

You need to also understand that challenges are forerunners of divine promotion. Mention somebody in the Bible who was promoted and I will tell you the mountain such person surmounted. Divine promotion is just like a boy in primary one going to primary two. Such a pupil will need to write an examination meant for his level and it is his performance that will determine whether he will be promoted or repeat the class. This is also applicable in the kingdom of God— to move to the next level, you have to qualify through some trials you must overcome. Let us look at the account of Joseph (a slave boy in a foreign country).

“As they discussed who should be appointed for the job, Pharaoh said, “Who could do it better than Joseph? For he is a man who is obviously filled with the spirit of God.”  Turning to Joseph, Pharaoh said, “Since God has revealed the meaning of the dreams to you, you are the wisest man in the land!  I hereby appoint you to direct this project. You will manage my household and organise all my people. Only I will have a rank higher than yours.” And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the entire land of Egypt.” Then, Pharaoh placed his own signet ring on Joseph’s finger as a symbol of his authority. He dressed him in beautiful clothing and placed the royal gold chain about his neck”- Gen. 41:38-42.

What you have just read above about Joseph has a prelude. Joseph did not just wake up one morning to rise quickly to the top. The journey was very rough from the time his brothers sold him to slavery (he was sold twice) to the ill-treatment he encounter at Potiphar’s house, which landed him in prison. The place of authority had been prepared for Joseph in Egypt. Nevertheless, he wrote his final paper of promotion, when he was called upon to unravel the puzzling dream Pharaoh had.

Hence, the final transition from prison to Pharaoh’s palace took place. His training for this important position involved being first a slave and then a prisoner; those were the challenges peculiar to Joseph. What is the challenge confronting you right now? Know for sure that it is promotion in disguise. So, don’t avoid it!
