Party insists on North-east producing next chairman

PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) Wednesday sacked its Acting National Chairman, Haliru Bello Mohammed and appointed its Secretary, Walid Jubrin to act in his place pending another election to pick a substantive chairman.

Recall that PDP National Working Committee (NWC) had on Monday shifted the BoT meeting to next Tuesday.

PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh had on Monday said, “the meeting of the National Caucus of the party has been shifted to Monday, February 15th, 2016. In the same vein, the meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) will now hold on the morning of Tuesday, February 16th while the National Executive Committee (NEC)
meeting will hold on the same Tuesday, February 16, 2016.”

Briefing newsmen yesterday on the outcome of their meeting in Abuja, the Secretary of BoT, now the acting chairman, Jubrin explained that the board unanimously appointed him to act, while still remaining the substantive secretary.

Asked why the BoT decided to hold its meeting against the directive of NWC, Jubrin said the board takes its decision as a special organ of the party.

“The BoT has already called for this meeting.
It is a special organ that regulates its activities. We can take our own decision. We will still attend next week’s meeting.”

On why the board decided to remove Mohammed , Jubrin said his tenure had already expired.
