The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has expressed its readiness to partner Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) Ado Ekiti to process timber and mango for export as one of the moves to reduce dependence on oil as the major foreign exchange earner.

The Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of NEPC, Olusegun Awolowo who led the management team of the Council to ABUAD farm said he was marveled with the large expanse of the farm, which covers thousands of hectares.

Awolowo explained that NEPC is going to each state of the federation to identify a product to be marketed on the global stage under its One-State-One-Product Initiative.

As part of restructuring in the agency, Awolowo disclosed that “smart offices” will be established in the 36 states in a bid to stimulate production and dependence less on oil money.

The NEPC boss revealed that in 2014, Nigeria’s revenue was above $70 billion but recorded a shortfall of $20 billion in 2015 owing to the crash in oil prices in the international market.

He disclosed that the Federal Government would establish storage facilities at the ports to preserve perishable farm produce in readiness for their export.

Expressing confidence that Nigeria can make more money in agriculture than oil sector, the founder of the highbrow institution, Aare Afe Babalola (SAN) has identified investment in agriculture as a veritable
means of turning Nigeria into an exporting country.
