Kebbi trains indigenous nurses, medical workers

THE Kebbi state government has trained more than 2000 indigenous Nurses and medical workers, the wife of the State Governor, Dr Zainab Bagudu has disclosed.

Speaking while flagging-off the Kebbi State Maternal and Newborn Child Health (MNCH) Week in Birnin Kebbi, Dr Bagudu hinted that the state government has successfully screened more than 2000 women for breast and cervical cancer since October 2015.

She added that patients that were found to be positive are also being following up with medication as well as care to restore their health.

In her address at the flag-off, the wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, called on wives of all the state governors to emulate Dr Bagudu and own the advocacy required to ensure successful implementation of the biannual MNCH weeks in their respective states.

Dr Zainab Bagudu, is a Paediatrician and cancer advocate who is the founder of the six-year-old Medicaid Cancer Foundation.

Mrs. Buhari opened the Jega General Hospital named after her by the state government. Free breast and cervical cancer screening was provided by the Medicaid Cancer Foundation in collaboration with GSK.

Mrs Buhari also commissioned the newly upgraded Birnin Yari primary health care centre, which serves as an infrastructural and economic model for all existing and subsequent Primary Health Centre (PHC) centers in the ‘Getting to 225’ one PHC per ward programme of the state government.

The Kebbi state MNCH Week is the first in the state this year and the first since the commencement of the “Saving One Million Lives Initiative” of the World Bank.
