FIRE yesterday gutted the Institute of Human Virology located at Millennium Plaza in the Central Business District of Abuja, opposite the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The fire was said to have started from a side of the plaza housing the institute at 2:15pm and spread to the other building in the plaza, which has four buildings belonging to the late governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu.

Besides the Institute, other companies in the plaza include Zenith Bank, Sky Bank and the advert unit of Punch Nigeria Limited.

The fire later spread to the next building, burning the pent house and third floor, but did affect the second and the first floor, which accommodates the advert unit of the newspaper.

Fire fighters from the NNPC got to the scene 10 minutes after the incident started and were later joined by officers of the Federal Fire Service and men of the Nigerian Police
