The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has promised to support the Nigerian military in the fight against insurgency in the country.

Mr Ahmed Idris, the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), made the promise in Abuja on Thursday in a statement by Mrs Kenechukwu Offie, Deputy Director, Press.

Idris, according to the statement, made the pledge when he paid the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. – Gen. Tukur Buratai, a courtesy call.

“The treasury has been tacitly collaborating with the Nigerian Army by ensuring that all the funds that accrue to them are duly and promptly released.

“This has helped the soldiers remain in high spirits to win the war against insurgency, “ Idris was quoted as saying.

The Accountant-General of the Federation commended Buratai and the Nigerian Military for the successes recorded so far in the fight against insurgency.

Idris said that the sterling leadership qualities of Buratai had helped the Army achieve so much within the short time of his tenure.

In his response, Burutai expressed satisfaction with the prompt and timely release of funds from the OAGF saying that the Army has had the best of times in recent times.

Burutai commended the AGF on the implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA), saying that the policy had since improved after its initial teething problems.

He also thanked the AGF for creating special accounts for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and other special needs of the soldiers.

He pledged his continued support to the programmes and plans of the OAGF.
