THE late wife of former Super Eagles’ coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, Kate, was formerly laid to rest yesterday in Benin City, Edo State after a three-year-long battle with cancer before her death on December 9 in United States.

Kate, 54, a graduate of Nursing from the University of Phoenix and mother of four, funeral was held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin and interment at the family residence at Ugiokhuen Quarters in GRA, Benin‎.

Eulogising his wife at the funeral, Keshi said she was a unique wife. “A wife that every man would love to have,” he said.

The former Super Eagles captain, while also thanking those that came for his wife’s funeral, said: “I am honoured for those that took time out of their busy schedules to give their last respect to my wife. Most of them have been with my wife; they know her and probably that is why they are here. I thank them and every other person, the press, and all Nigerians who were there in prayers with my family. I am grateful.”

In the words of Eguavoen, a close family friend, “the late Kate was a wonderful person, she is very close to my family. My wife was her chief bridesmaid when she did her white wedding in Belgium and she was a good mother to my first daughter. Kate was a lovely woman and we are going to miss her.”

Dignitaries that attended the burial included the Technical Director of the Super Eagles, Shuaibu Amodu, Daniel Amokachi, Frank Ilaboya, among others.
