Senate to deliberate on 30 bills of interest in 2016 – Saraki
The President of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki, on Monday said the Senate will deliberate on 30 bills during 2016 legislative year.
According to Saraki, the bills submitted by members of the Senate will address governance, economic reform and help reform critical sectors of our country.
The bills when passed are also expected to give backing to necessary “reforms in areas of security, judiciary,anti-corruption, taxation & poverty eradication,” Saraki said.
Some of the bills slated for deliberations by the Senate according to Saraki include Police Reform Bill, Justice Reform Bill, Criminal Procedure Law Amendment Bill, Budget Reform Bill etc.
He said: “The 30 Bills are meant to drastically change business environment and promote inclusive growth especially in agriculture & other non oil sector.
“Also we have National Assembly Budget & Research Office Bill as part of the 30 bills that will be debated.
“The 30 bills will encourage private sector participation in railways, road construction & other transport infrastructure to create jobs.
“The 30 bills will establish a framework for agencies of government to set goals, measure performance and submit related plans and reports to National Assembly.
It is our belief in National Assembly that diversification can only happen if we provide the necessary regulatory and legislative framework.
“As we await the debate of the 30 bills I encourage Nigerians to follow closely so as to attend the public hearing or send in recommendations.”

You should have more than 30 bills to discuss. What about the PIB? That should be the priority.
with what is going on in Nigeria, 30 bills are not going to be enough. where is the bill to cut governing expenses down. Where is the bill to deal with fuel, electrical power, gas supply, pipeline vandalism, education, importation of everything. There is a lot of work to be done, I don’t believe this senate should be limiting themselves to just 30 bill for the year. we need more.
We will review and take appropriate action.
