Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors have asked the Acting National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, to immediately vacate his office.

They also asked Secondus to handover the leadership of the party to the National Secretary, Prof. Adewale Oladipo, pending the time the party will appoint a replacement from the North-East.

But in a swift response, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) announced that the National Executive Committee (NEC) would meet next week to resolve crucial issues affecting the party, including the replacement of Secondus.

It however, declared that Secondus would remain as the acting chairman until a decision is taken in that regards by NEC.

The governors anchored their decision to remove Secondus on the party’s Constitution, Section 45(1), which provides that “If a national officer of the party is removed or resigns from office, he shall immediately hand over to the national secretary all records, files and other properties of the party in his or her possession.”

Chairman of the forum and Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, who signed a statement after the governors’ meeting yesterday stated that “in cognizance of the judgment the court gave, we call on the National Secretary to take over the leadership of the party immediately and that is in line with the provisions of the PDP constitution.

‎”We take cognizance of the judgment by the court in Abuja which ordered the acting chairman to vacate office for any other person from the North-East zone of Nigeria.”

The NWC in a statement tagged “No Change In PDP Leadership”
signed by the National Legal Adviser, Victor Kwon, said: “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP wishes to assure all members nationwide that there has not been any change whatsoever in the leadership composition of the party at the national level.

For the avoidance of doubt, the statutory organs of the party, the NWC, National Caucus, BoT and NEC will be meeting next week to deliberate on some developments including the replacement, from the North East of Alhaji Adamu Muazu, who resigned as the National Chairman of the party.”

Also, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, the former Political Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan‎, has rejected suggestion that Oladipo should take over from Secondus.

Gulak, who proclaimed himself as PDP national chairman on Wednesday argued that the governors were ill advised on the matter.
I’m a statement yesterday, Gulak said the advice “is not only contrary to the Constitution of PDP 2012 as amended, it is in flagrant contempt of the declarative judgment given by the FCT High Court on the 16th day of December, 2015.”
