NEMA tasks states on emergency trust fund for disaster control
THE National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has tasked state governments to contribute one per cent of internally-generated revenue and one per cent of monthly allocation from the Federation Account towards the establishment of emergency trust fund for the purpose of disaster management.
This was part of the resolution by participants at the yearly consultative meeting between the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs) in Asaba.
They maintained that the need for emergency trust fund has become necessary due to lack of defined funding sources and allocation criteria for the SEMAs by state governments resulting to over-reliance on NEMA.
Director-General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani-Sidi, in his remarks, called for stronger coordination among critical stakeholders, especially between the coordinating agencies at the federal and state levels.
