The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj-Gen. Mohammed Aliyu, has said that 14 terrorists who had been terrorizing residents of Babangida town in Yobe State were killed in a Coordinated Military Operations on Sunday.

Large cache of arms and ammunition, according to Aliyu, were recovered during the five-hour operations carried out in the Sassawa forest of Yobe State.

His words: “The insurgents had been terrorising Babangida town and
environs, and they were building arms at Chirokusko village of Tarmuwa Local Government area before our troops intercepted them in the Sassawa-Maisandari axis.”

The GOC said that one of the soldiers sustained minor injuries during the operation and is currently being treated.

The arms recovered, he said, include six AK 47 rifles, two G3 rifles, an FN rifle and one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG). Others are two Rocket Propelled Guns, three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and 382 rounds of ammunition.

According to the general officer commanding, two Hilux vehicles belonging to the police were snatched by the hoodlums who also torched the telecom masts belonging to Airtel in the area. He said the military personnel were able to arrest two suspects who are now being interrogated.
