He said even though the police was aware of the possible location where the victims were being held they have not been able to rescue them because they want to ensure they were rescued alive.

The police chief made the disclosure to journalists after a protracted meeting with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Udu, Delta state, where the police, vigilante groups, hotel owners, and the Udu community exchanged ideas on how to curb the high crime rate in Udu Kingdom.

The police commissioners said the police was aware of the location where the two victims were being held and that the kidnappers had called to demand for ransom but that he would not disclose plans being made to free him in the media.

He said: “The kidnappers have made calls. We have been able to close their location. We have not been able to rescue because we are doing a lot of planning. The process of rescuing is delicate so you must be very cautious so that you do not harm the victims”.

He disclosed that there were some kidnaps also in the Ughelli area, which the police successfully freed the hostages without harm.

On why there has been an upsurge of kidnapping in the state, the police chief said a situation where there is unemployment and where those who are working have not been paid salaries may partly be responsible.

Earlier, the Udu PCRC spokesman, Mr. Ade Okeewo and other security stakeholders pleaded with the police commissioner to expand operations to Udu in view of the economic importance of area to the state.
