FRIN Ibadan wins Zaria 2015 Research Institutes Games

Forest Research Institute (FRIN), Ibadan, at the weekend became champions of the 2015 Research Institutes Games (RIGAN), which featured 19 institutes contesting for 262 trophies in the competition hosted by the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) Zaria.

To emerge champions, Forest Research Institute (FRIN), Ibadan, won 16 gold, 16 silver and 13 bronze medals. They were followed by another Ibadan school, Institute for Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), which got 13 gold, 15 silver and seven bronze medals, with the National Root Crops Research Institute (NRCRI), Umudike, taking the third position with 12 gold, one silver and six bronze medals.

The Nigerian Building Roads Research Institute (NBRRI), Abuja,
and Lake Chad Research Institute of Nigeria (LCRI), Maiduguri, were the last on the table with just a bronze each.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, pledged the state government’s commitment to sports at all levels.

He said: “I wish to reiterate the commitment of Kaduna State towards promoting sports at all levels. We are also willing to assist all sports men and women to develop their talents.”

Represented by Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport‎, Alhaji Usman Mahmud Hassan, El-Rufai‎ noted that the success of such competitions lies in the emergence of both the winners and the losers.
He challenged the losers to work harder towards achieving success in subsequent editions.

Earlier in his address, the chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC) and host of RIGAN Games 2015, Director General, Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria,‎ Dr. Aminu Musa Yusuf, said, “RIGAN fraternity has lived up to its core objectives of fostering friendship through sports.
