Awo Idemili, Amaruru for Orsu Council Cup final
Awo Idemili and Amaruru Towns have qualified for the final of the Orsu Local Council Development Union football talent hunt for Indigenes of the council resident in Lagos.
The competition, holding at the Lagos Polytechnic, Isolo Campus, saw Awo Idemili maintaining their unbeaten run in the eight-team tournament with a 2-0 victory over Umuhu Okabia at the weekend.
Akachukwu Ike and Ugochukwu Martins scored the two goals in the first half to ensure that the Chris Odogwu coached Awo Idemili side booked a place in the final.
The second semi final turned out to be a very feisty encounter as Eziawa and Amaruru battled to play in the final of this inaugural tournament.
Amaruru’s Chibuzor Egbeyiugo scored after only 40 seconds to the joy of his father, Martin, who is the team’s coach and the people of his community. All efforts by Eziawa to equalize came to naught as their strikers lost several scoring chances.
Meanwhile, the organisers of the competition have promised that talents discovered in the programme will be supported to achieve their dreams in football.
One of the rising stars that have caught the eyes of scouts is Emeka Okeke, whose father, Christian Okeke, popular known as 106 in his playing days, was a former goalkeeper of the defunct ACB Football Club of Lagos.
