world-Toilet-DayTO mark the world Toilet Day, the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Lagos, in collaboration with RB Reckitt Benckiser organized a road show to educate Idi-Araba residents on the need to maintain healthy lifestyle.

The event, which started with a road walk around Idi-Araba community, witnessed the enlightenment of members of the community on the need to ensure clean and safe use of the toilets and their environments to prevent diarrhea, which is among killer-disease of children. Two mobile toilets and some products were donated to the community by Harpic brand, RB Reckitt Benckiser, to boost access to safe toilets and good hygiene.

At the exercise tagged: “Stop open defecation, use a toilet,” the Director of UNIC, Lagos, Mr. Ronald Kayanja, said the donation was symbolic to ensure that members of the community use the toilets and wash their hands to prevent cholera among children and other members of the community.

While commending Nigeria on its feat to checkmate Ebola, Kayanja said that since the country was able to check the spread of the dreaded Ebola, it could also perform the same feat in putting an end to cholera by maintaining good hygiene.

He said the UN was committed to ensuring that all Nigerians have access to clean water, safe environment and sanitation as part of the Goal ‘6’ of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The marketing manager of RB Reckitt Benckiser, Bamigbaiye-Elatuyi Omotola, said that yearly, the firm educates not less than one million homes on good sanitation, good toilet hygiene and safe environment.

According to her, the walk around the Idi-Araba community was carried out to create awareness on the need to maintain good toilet habits to ensure healthier and happier families, adding that the event is a yearly exercise that is shifted from one location to the other.
