Organised Labour, IPMAN Picket Filling Stations In Ekiti

ORGANISED labour and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) in Ekiti State, yesterday stormed some petrol stations accused by buyers of selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at outrageous prices, some for as much as N200 per litre.

The task force, which visited over 30 petrol stations in Ado-Ekiti and Ikere Ekiti compelled operators selling above N135 per litre agreed by stakeholders during a meeting held on Thursday, to comply with the new arrangement.

The picketing team was led by the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Com. Ade Adesanmi, his counterpart in Trade Union Congress (TUC), Com. Odunayo Adesoye; Chairman of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Com. Oluwole Jegede and IPMAN secretary in the State, Alhaji Subair Jimoh.

In most of the stations visited by the team, petrol was sold for between N150 and N180 per litre, which they described as not only outrageous but would further cause serious hardship for the people.

In some stations where managers had lied that they were selling at N87 per litre, the team took time and monitored the sales of the product to motorists and other buyers.
