It was another classic Bayern Munich performance. Start with the intensity of a hurricane blast, score three goals inside the opening 20 minutes and then dominate but with the satisfaction of knowing the job is done.

Scorer of their third against Olympiacos was a certain Thomas Muller, who took his season’s goal tally to an impressive 19 when he tapped in from an Arjen Robben header on a night when he also achieved a rare distinction.

The Germany striker became the youngest player to rack up 50 wins in the Champions League, moving to the head of a star-packed list of players to have graced the European stage.

Bayern’s 4-0 win over the Greek champions, which took them through into the knockout phase, saw Muller rack up a half-century of Champions League wins at the age of 26 years, two months and 11 days. To put it another way, that’s 9,568 days or 73 appearances.

The previous holder of the record was Spanish legend Raul, who notched 50 wins when Real Madrid defeated Bayern back in March 2004. The striker was 26 years, eight months and 12 days.

So Muller has managed to trump Raul by about six months.
Other names in the top 10 list include Lionel Messi, who was 27 years, four months and 12 days when Barcelona beat Ajax last season – his 50th Champions League victory.
