UNIABUJA ready to partner investors in fermentation business

The University of Abuja has expressed its willingness to partner with any potential investors in the establishment of indigenous fermentation outfits, as part of efforts aimed at creating employment opportunities for its teeming graduates.

The University of Abuja has expressed its willingness to partner with any potential investors in the establishment of indigenous fermentation outfits, as part of efforts aimed at creating employment opportunities for its teeming graduates.

Vice chancellor of the university, Professor Micheal Umale Adikwu gave the hint while speaking to newsmen in Abuja shortly after chairing the 16th inaugural lecture of the institution presented by Professor Rosemary Nnennaya Isu, of the Department of Microbiology.

Prof. Adikwu who noted admitted that running an indigenous fermentation firms was quiet capital intensive, maintained that establishing such an industry will go a long way in further harnessing the contributions of micro organisms to human development and existence.

In her lecture titled: “Microorganisms, My Health, My Way and My Space,” the lecturer maintained that microorganisms should be perceived as man’s best friend considering the invaluable role they play in human life cycle, adding that, “Every human being signed an M.O.U with the microbial world and humans are the sole reservoir of pathogens.”

On the handling of microorganisms to ensure a healthy living, she advised that we must ensure a clean environment, ensure very high level of personal hygiene by washing our hands with clean water and soap regularly; avoid inconvenient habits including indulging in unguarded kissing of loved ones and exposures to dangerous health conditions.

She called on government and corporate organisations to extend financial assistance to the scaling up of the process of producing fermentation ingredients so as to generate employment opportunities and grow the country’s economy, adding that in order climes the process of fermentation remains very essential in the production of foods, drinks, yeast and so on.
