Total… Partners Visa to reward customers with free fuel
TOTAL Group in Nigeria has restated its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes targeted at improving the welfare of its host communities.

The company recently donated hi-tech HIV/AIDS screening equipment and reagents to the Bwari General Hospital in the Bwari Area Council of the FCT.

Also, the company has partnered Global payment technology company Visa, to reward customers who use their Visa card to buy fuel at any of Total service stations in Lagos.

Total, which made the donation during the launch of the expanded community HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, FCT, also offered free HIV testing to over 1000 residents of the area.

Presenting the equipment on behalf of Total Nigeria Plc and Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria, the General Manager, CSR/SD, Dr. Charles Ngeribara, said the organization is committed to positively impacting on the lives of Nigerians through health education and institutional capacity support on HIV/AIDS management.

He said the project involved the training of peer educators who would create further awareness to the public, as well as the use of their service stations as centres for free HIV counseling and testing for willing members of the public.

“The modalities adopted in the implementation of this initiative are in full compliance with the United Nations recommended standards which, involves stakeholder engagement with the communities, addressing specific issues of concern and capacity building for peer educators,” he added.

Project Manager, FCT Agency for the Control of Aids (FACA), Dr. Uche Okoro, urged Total to consider providing Condom Dispensers at the filling stations for its customers, as a away of preventing HIV and STI infections in the General Population.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Helath, Linus Awute, noted that no country can succeed economically without a healthy workforce and so adequate attention to maintaining the health status of its citizens should be the priority of every government.

The Visa promotion, which aimed at educating consumers and businesses on the convenience of making payments for fuel and other commodities at Total service stations, will run for seven weeks from 19th October 19 to December 6 with seven Total service stations giving out N1000 worth of free petrol daily to 10 Visa card users who buy petrol worth N3000 and above.

Total explained that the seven stations giving out free fuel are pre-selected and they change daily to ensure all stations get fair rounds. Cardholders also stand a chance of winning free fuel for a year through a raffle draw by sending an SMS to a short-code which will be provided at the service stations.
