Omowole made the call on Tuesday when she visited the family house of the late icon in Ikenne, Ogun, to commiserate with her family.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, 99, the matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty died in Ikenne on Sept. 19.
She said that the association planned to hold public lecture series in honour of the deceased.
“NAWOJ, therefore, commiserates with her immediate family and indeed all Nigerians over the demise of the Icon.
“She left her marks on the sand of time and will never be forgotten but always be celebrated.
“NAWOJ has, therefore, resolved to put in place an annual lecture to immortalise our mother, Chief (Mrs) Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, ‘’Omowole said.
The NAWOJ boss said that the association was not in Ikenne to mourn the death of the late matriarch but to celebrate her exemplary life.
She, therefore, urged Nigerian women to emulate HID Awolowo.
“Her death may be saddening but we do not mourn her, rather we celebrate her.
“We celebrate the life of this “jewel of inestimable value” because her life was exemplary and worthy of emulation.
“Mrs Awolowo was one of the women who paved the way for women participation in politics when she stood in for her husband in the alliance formed between the NCNC and the AG.
“HID Awolowo actively participated in politics, especially in the Western Region, campaigning with her husband in the second republic.
“She was also alongside with her late husband, a nationalist who contributed in no small way to the nation’s independence,” she said.
Omowole said that late HID would be remembered in the good books of history and would be dearly missed as one of the true mothers of Nigeria.
