THE National Association of Telecommunication Subscribers (NATCOMS) has urged the new leadership of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to address the issue of poor quality of telecom services in the country.

NCCTHE National Association of Telecommunication Subscribers (NATCOMS) has urged the new leadership of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to address the issue of poor quality of telecom services in the country.

The plea is coming as the regulatory body cautioned the telecom providers against neglects of consumers’ complaints.
According to the Director of Consumer Affairs Bureau, NCC, Alhaji Abdullahi Maikano, yesterday at Offa, Kwara state, the caution is aimed at boosting telecom service to meet the global best practices in the telecom service delivering.

Maikano, who was represented by the Deputy Director Consumer Affairs Bureau, Dr Femi Atoyebi, spoke at the17th edition of Consumer Town Hall Meeting at Ofa.

In a statement signed by its President, Chief Adeolu Ogunbanjo, and sent to The Guardian yesterday, NATCOMS, a consumer rights group, complained about a range of poor service such as “dropping and breaking calls, undelivered but paid for text messages, data services deduction, internet poor quality, and unauthorised call credit deduction,”adding that, subscribers are not compensated for the loss.

The group also condemned telecom operators for allowing unsolicited text messages to be sent to subscribers, and charged NCC to compel operators to stop the exercise.
