Group berates Tinubu over comments on Saraki

A political group, Maja Progressives Union (MPU) yesterday criticised a leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu over what it called unfair verbal attacks on the person of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Saraki-CopyA political group, Maja Progressives Union (MPU) yesterday criticised a leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu over what it called unfair verbal attacks on the person of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

At a press briefing in Ilorin, the MPU alleged that Saraki, “born into politics, remained an astute politician who rose to political stardom without any godfather deserves some measures of respects from Tinubu.”

Tinubu drew the ire of the group over his alleged comments yesterday in some national dailies on Saraki that the Senate President was chameleonic in his attitude since crossing over from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

According to the spokesman of the group, Alhaji Kayode Yusuf, Saraki had led the entire people of Kwara to the APC “not because of Tinubu but because of the antecedents of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

Yusuf who attempted a comparison between Saraki and Tinubu said the Senate President “is not a pretending ethnic chauvinist but a true Nigerian. We rallied round him during the last general elections in Kwara because of Buhari. Saraki used his influence and good will to win for the APC the entire elective posts in the state during the polls and therefore should not be called names.

“He is our political leader in Kwara. He is acceptable to us all. But Tinubu cannot call himself the leader of the Yoruba today. We went into all these to show the world that Saraki is always committed to whatever course he lays his hand on, including the APC. The party was not solely formed by Tinubu but by many people from different ideological backgrounds.”

The MPU leader while recalling the political style of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, said that the late Yoruba leader displayed an all inclusive political style among all his people and associates, the development he said also  “exists till date in Kwara under Saraki.”

He added, “we have observed that Tinubu, unlike Awolowo sees himself as a boss and not a leader. Even the great Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, played his political game as a leader and not a boss. This was the attribute the late biological father of the Senate President (Olusola Saraki) left for us in Kwara and that is what his son is building on. We urge Tinubu to follow suit.”

Yusuf said, Saraki with his alleged populist ideology “would not take returns from any serving elected political office holders unlike what some political godfathers always do. We are Saraki’s loyalists and we can boldly tell the whole world that we are all committed members of the APC. APC is indeed our party.

“Tinubu fondly called the Lion of Bourdillion, should not challenge Saraki over issues that bother on party loyalty. Afterall we are aware of what some people are trying to do here in Kwara by sponsoring some members of opposition PDP against the ruling party APC. Tinubu should also remember that if he fights Saraki, he is fighting the entire people of Ilorin who have no absolute trust in anything but powers of God.”

Describing Tinubu as “a respectable man” in the society, the MPU leader urged him not to allow “the loving people of Ilorin” to see him as the enemy of their leader, “because anyone fighting Saraki is contending with all the people of Ilorin and even Kwara State as a whole.

“Tinubu is a respected elderly man in the society. We implore him therefore not to drag his name in the mud. Saraki, who they are now alleging not to be a loyal APC member, won for the party in Kwara in the last elections, the entire 193 councillorship seats, the entire 24 House of Assembly slots, all the seats of the 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) chairmen, swept the whole six seats of the House of Representatives, and churned out the three Senators, representing the state at the Upper Chamber of the Legislative arm of government. Who else has these credentials within the party?”

He advised Tinubu to recall all the accolades he had bestowed on the Senate President during the APC campaign rallies in Ilorin, noting, “Saraki still remains the same loyalist of a progressive change in the nation’s political arena and to paint him otherwise will be unjust.”

The MAJA can only come from among the very small minority in ilorin to say Saraki has no godfather. His father imposed him and imposed his sister on Ilorin people. His father placed ilorin in his pocket for many years that Ilorin people in UK are called omo Saraki and they get angry with such name. What else, is godfatherism if not that

E se see! God bless. His father was anti Yoruba at large!

Thief Tinubu have to be very careful is push ilorin people to the wall and is time now to attack him agressively. Fighting with ilorin man is like u are fighting with God

        • Author’s gravatar

You are right. Ilorin man in Saraki image is a god to his followers not to all the majority Ilorin people. Ilorin people are peace loving and tolerant, they will rather serve a king or a family for many years than destroying their communities for political gains. So I agree with you that fighting Ilorin man is fighting a thin god.

Same way Tinubu imposed his wife, daughter and son in law in lagos.

Are they not citizens of the fed. republic?, to aspire to any position of their dreams. George Bush Snr. was American President, and his two sons governors. One of them later president how many years after him. The Americans did not cry of nepotism or imposition. You lot are so limited.

Go and study political science and find out how it flows in the blood of some families in USA, France, UK, India, China and orher developed and developing countries. Even in Nigeria Tinubu is the first to have his family in politics. All you need is little research into family political science around the world.

        Thank you.

So why are you against the Saraki dynasty in Ilorin. As you claim “it flows in the blood. At least Saraki Jnr is a qualified Doctor, graduated from one of the best universities in the UK, practices Medicine before following his father’s footstep into banking. He was later appointed Special Adviser on budget affairs by Obj, a position he occupied for four years before becoming Governor. Saraiki worked for everything he’s acheived despite coming from a rich family. I’m not sure I can say the same for Tinubu’s relatives imposed in governmnet. Oh sorry, didn’t Tinubu himself lie about his Phd.

Graduate from one the best university in Nigeria? And head of societie general Bank.
None of those political dynasty around the world ever imposed themselves on one particular state. They all fought for themselves on different ideology and not their father imposed them.

Members of this confuse political party will continue to fight themselves until their 4year tenure expires without any achievement to show for the trust impose on them by Nigerians. Their actions so far has shown that they are a party peopled by selfish personalities and not genuine politicians.

A corrupt nation finally reaps the harvest of a century of unmitigated psychopathic opacity by precipitating a proverbially opaque senate leadership..At last the chicken comes home to roost but the nation never realized what happened

While I agree to the comments made by this group of so called Maja Progressives Union (MPU) in an attempt to defend their benefactor, it is worthy of note that the offence committed by Senate President will hunt him for a long time and may also mar furtherance of his political career. To me the offence committed wouldn’t have been taken serious had it not been that an opposition was made the deputy speaker in an all inclusive APC government. That Dr. Bukola Saraki emerged the Senate President is political scheming and showed political supremacy over others but that a PDP senator emerged deputy Senate President is an act of treachery, rebellion and undeserving from Senate President elect. It is amounts to dining and wining with the opposition at the expense of the APC controlled government. With this, there is no way APC controlled government can have absolute trust in Saraki led senate. This is the problem. Deputy Senate President has reaped where he did not sow because Dr. Bukola Saraki betrayed his party to emerged the President. The act committed by Saraki is a seed which he is nurturing by all means and will grow for him to reap either now or in future. APC leaders can forget it and allow it to be but conscience of the Senate President will not and this may not allow him to flow with his party and the presidency. The best thing for him is to find a way to appease the party leadership and the Presidency and where necessary, let him eat the humble pie.

Firstly, Saraki has committed no “offence” against any law in the manner he became Senate President. Secondly, Saraki did make Ekweremadu Deputy Senate President. The 20 Senators loyal to saraki present on the floor of the senate when the election took place voted for Ndume. They were out numbered by the PDP senators. That is a fact. Had the Lawan group been present on the floor, and they should have been, and not decided to attend a wuru wuru meeting engineered by Tinubu, Ekweremadu would not be Deputy Senate President today. That is also a fact

Julius, your analysis here is right. Have you also paused to reflect on the fact that a Senate President that is facing a 13- count charge of alleged criminal misconduct has lost all credibility and respect for that office? He is not going to do the honorable thing and resign as that has never been in the dictionary of a Nigerian politician, where integrity is in short supply.

If saraki won kwara what does it count,
