Waste-1--THE Principal Consultant of Codub, Mr. Chidi Umeano has said that no single project contact should be executed without a 10-year maintenance plan in place.

Speaking in Lagos at a press briefing to announce the 2015 Asset and Waste Management Summit slated for November 3 to November 4, 2015, Umeano stated that the monumental losses being recorded because of lack of maintenance culture is what is prompting having such policy in place. He also said it is the reason for the theme of this year’s summit, Asset Life Cycle: From Asset Acquisition to Rethinking Waste as a Resource.

He also stated that to ensure that Nigerians imbibe good maintenance culture, enlightenment is key. He, therefore, suggested having educative programmes aimed principally at keeping Nigerians abreast of the importance of maintaining facilities.

According to him, Nigerians must be made to understand that when they do not take proper care of public or private facilities, they are not just robbing themselves of the good use of the facilities in the near future, their children are also being denied access to such facilities in the future.

According to him, this year’s summit will be looking at asset and waste because of the growing challenge of waste management in the country.
