New AIG seeks community relations, pledges to eradicate police brutal

THE new Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police in charge of Zone 11, Mrs. Kalafite Adeyemi, has declared that the Nigeria Police Force would improve on its community relations to promote peace and security in the country.

Adeyemi said this yesterday when speaking with journalists in Akure during the familiarisation visit to Ondo State, noting that the cooperation of the people had immensely assisted NPF to efficiently deliver of its mandate.

According to her: “My visit here is to come and appreciate the people of Ondo State. The governor and all other stakeholders that have been contributing to the success of my policemen.”

The AIG, who was among the 19 AIGs recently redeployed to the 12 zonal commands by the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, stated that security watch was the responsibility of every member of the society, who had significant roles to play to keep the country free of crime.

You have to know where they came from, this will help to reduce the issue of Boko Haram and kidnapping because if you notice, in every kidnapping case, there’s always an insider.”

She revealed based on intelligence that the culprits “don’t just come and kidnap people without knowing the terrain especially when they want a good ransom.

They investigate their victims and people supply them these information because they live within us.” She submitted further: “They are the people you employed, those who work around you, people you might have discussed one or two things about yourself with. They know how rich your bank account is.”

The Police boss reiterated the new drive for efficiency employed by Solomon Arase, emphasizing, “to combat crime, security agents need to partner with the communities and that is what we have been doing. We are moving to villages by partnering with them and seek their cooperation in combating crimes across the country.”

The AIG assured the people that the NPF would reduce police brutality to the barest minimum and apropos a 50-year woman allegedly beaten to death by some policemen last Sunday in Akure, Ronke Adelugba.

She said that the command had arrested the police suspects and would be prosecuted duly. She tasked police officers in the state to discharge their duties with conscience and the fear of God, while the former Commissioner for Police, Isaac Eke, who was moved to the force headquarters, noted that the command was investigating the murder allegation and looking into the death of the woman’s death.
