National Stadium cleaners want strong waste bins
Cleaners at the National Stadium, Lagos, on Monday appealed to the facility’s management to provide waste bins at strategic points for users to dispose of their waste.
Ngozi Okoye, who spoke on behalf of her colleagues, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the stadium that the provision of the bins would make their task easier.
Okoye said the available plastic bins at the stadium were inadequate and fragile to contain enough wastes.
“Heavy breeze usually bend the plastic bins because they are fragile and small and the waste deposited in them eventually pour out and litter the environment again.
“Although, the management is trying, we will like them to make our work easier by providing big and sturdy plastic drums as waste bins.
“Most of the trash in the waste bins is usually empty plastic bottles, pure water sachets, biscuit, sweet and ice cream wrappers, all of which are light.
“So, whenever there is heavy breeze, the bins due to their light nature were usually blown away and the waste back to the ground,’’ Okoye said.
She added often times; the light plastic bins were trampled upon by drivers in the stadium.
According to her, the situation needs to be promptly prevented with the provision of strong waste bins.
